The curious, endemic Weka. 

The inquisitive Weka is known for it's cheeky behaviour and common thievery.  Similar in size and appearance to the Kiwi, but with a shorter beak.  Once widespread, they're now found in Gisborne, Russell and small pockets around the country.  Endemic to New Zealand.
