To celebrate 10 years in business, I wanted to document the journey and tell the story behind my work and the Hansby Design brand.
The new video takes you inside my design studio, and shows the process, inspiration and motivation behind my work.

I worked with the lovely and very patient Michelle from Show & Tell Video, a good friend who encouraged me to get in front of the camera. It’s a confronting process and something that took some getting used to, it’s still hard to see and hear myself on screen.

We shot the footage over 3 days, in my Pt Chev studio, the Gannet Colony at Muriwai beach here in Auckland, and a friend's beautiful home.
As you’ll see, I draw in my sketch book and work on an iPad to create my images. The iPad offers access to any colour, so I can easily manipulate colours to create tonal details, and work with colour trends.
I can zoom in to refine shapes and enlarge the images to print any size, it offers unlimited possibilities. I love the smooth flat colour that print offers, and the graphic quality of line drawing - my favourite medium is still my black fine art pen.

I used to work in interior styling, so I enjoy co-ordinating spaces using artwork as the centrepiece. Choose colours from the art for your furniture and accessories, then add colours that compliment them so it feels natural. Creating a colour scheme from your art is an easy way to make your room feel cohesive.
This Morepork / Ruru print above is A0 size. In this vast space, the artwork needed to be big to stand out, or it would be dwarfed by this double height wall. With art, it's always best to go bigger, you won't be disappointed.
I hope this little video gives you a glimpse into my story, my brand and my vision.
Enjoy :)
