Kiwi's are flightless birds and belong to an ancient group of birds that can't fly, including the Emu and extinct Moa. They have evolved over 70 million years. Kiwi's are large nocturnal birds, known for laying giant eggs. Eighty years ago the population was around 5 million, today numbers have plummeted to around 50-60,000 birds.
